Visible & invisible site updates

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Over the holidays, I had the pleasure(?) of attending a LAN party where 1) I was the only girl and 2) I was the only macbook. Since they never got around to playing the Steam games that I own, I ended up working until 6am, re-writing the markup and css of my site. Version 1.0 dates back to June 2009, and, though it was pixel-perfect true to the design, and worked pretty ok, it was a little messy under the hood – something I could easily see after working more intimately with css over the last 1.5 years. Let me know what you think of the improvements:

  • tidier markup and managed to edit the css from 700(?!) lines to 350 lines (site looks exactly the same, and functions better)
  • stopped absolutely positioning things since I’ve figured out floats in the last year o_O
  • replaced the highslide js popups with jquery sliding carousels
  • added some recent projects to all sections
  • replaced some of the text to be less lolcat, more professional
  • added an Illustration section with vector drawings and icon sets from recent projects

Wanted: awesome projects to collaborate on

Oh, hello March. The site updates I mentioned in January are coming in the next week or so – I’m just getting a hand with my wonky javascript and then we should be good. The design has stayed the same, but some things to look forward to include: some new work, a new illustration section, cleaner html/css (though I guess that’s not really that exciting).

2011 so far has been fantastic, and biking all winter long has made it not even feel like winter at all… I’ve been out and about more than ever, and I’ve got the salt ruined boots to prove it. January and February were both incredibly busy; I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to do some great work with the awesome teams at Jet Cooper and nulayer over the past few weeks. There’s lots of exciting stuff in the works!

I’m always looking for the next piece of awesome so get in touch and let’s start something amazing!
